Service 01
Blackburn Carpentry are expert timber frame builders serving Wiltshire, Hampshire, Dorset and beyond. We design and erect structural timber frames for new builds, barn conversions, extensions and loft conversions — crafting every component to exacting tolerances.
Timber frame construction uses a structural skeleton of precision-cut timber as the load-bearing frame of a building. It is one of the oldest and most trusted building methods in Britain, combining structural strength with speed of construction and outstanding thermal performance.
At Blackburn Carpentry, we work with both green oak and kiln-dried softwood frames depending on the application — bringing traditional craftsmanship and modern precision to every project.
With over 15 years of experience in structural timber work, our team understands the complexities of timber frame design, including load paths, connection details and the relationship between the frame and other building elements. We project-manage from design through to completion, working closely with your architect and structural engineer.

Is timber frame suitable for a self-build?
Absolutely. Timber frame is one of the most popular methods for self-builders — the speed of erection keeps build programmes short and weather-tight quicker, saving money on preliminary costs.
Do you work with architects and structural engineers?
Yes. We regularly work alongside architects, structural engineers and planning consultants, and can advise at design stage to ensure the timber specification is buildable and cost-effective.
What areas do you cover for timber frame construction?
We are based in Salisbury and cover Wiltshire, Hampshire, Dorset and London as standard. We will also consider projects further afield — please call to discuss.
